Get involved / Letter to lobby for UN youth delegate (example) Your name Government Official's Address Date Dear [Official's name], As a member of [your youth organization, or NGO, if applicable], as well
as a concerned citizen of [your country], I wanted to contact you to express
my desire to see the [your country]'s Mission to the United Nations work
towards including youth delegates regularly in our country's delegations
to the General Assembly. The General Assembly has reiterated these calls on several occasions. In 1995, the General Assembly invited "Member States, once again, to include, whenever possible, youth representatives in their delegations to the General Assembly' (World Program of Action for Youth to the Year 2000 and Beyond, A/50/81). In addition, the GA restated in 2001 "the call made in the World Program of Action to Member States to consider including youth representatives in their delegations to the General Assembly' (Resolution on Policies and Programs Involving Youth, A/56/117). Many countries have incorporated youth within their national delegations
to the General Assembly for over thirty years. Yet [your country], while
being a leader in [examples: environmental issues, foreign aid, calling
to democracy, etc.], has fallen behind in the area of youth delegates.
While many countries, such as Denmark, the Netherlands, Ecuador, and India,
have sent youth delegates in the past, [your country] has not sent single
representative from youth to participate with the General Assembly. Your Name | |
